Structural Analysis - Manufacturing Floors, Dayton

A manufacturing facility in Dayton was scheduled to have an OSHA inspection. The floor manager realized that several of their mezzanine floors, which were used to store inventory and equipment, were not labeled for loading capacity. Norton Engineering was called in to examine and analyze these existing mezzanine floors.

Small Mezzanine

The large mezzanine floor was supported by 2x12 wood joists, and the other used a combination of structural steel, 2x4's, and sturdy plywood. Norton analyzed the floors and computed the design strengths for each. A stamped letter was provided to the client with the allowable floor loads and recommended wording for placards.
