Dioxin Measurement Units:

by John W. Norton, P.E., B.C.E.E.

MILLIONS, BILLIONS & TRILLIONS

1 part per million =
1 minute in 2 years, or
1 inch in 16 miles,

1 part per billion =
1 second in 32 years, or
1 inch in 16,000 miles, or
16 inches between here and the moon,

1 part per trillion =
1 second in 32,000 years, or
1 inch in 16,000,000 miles.

Consider Dioxin Measurement Units:

ng/m3

"nanogram per cubic meter."

One cubic meter of air weighs a bit more than 1000 grams.

It follows that:

1 gm per cubic meter = 1 part per 1000,

1 mg per cubic meter = 1 part per million,

1 mg per cubic meter = 1 part per billion,

1 ng per cubic meter = 1 part per trillion.

1 second in 32,000 years!
